Rion DA-20 Long-Term Monitors

In the March 2007 DEFRA NANR172 report into Human Response to Vibration in Residential Environments the Rion DA-20 was selected as the preferred equipment option for data acquisition on the basis that is provided the best combination of functionality and cost. In the long-term kit, the Rion DA-20 is powered off gel cell batteries inside a weather-resistant case. It’s the perfect solution when assessing against complex vibration criteria or combinations of parameters (such as VDV and PPV and octave or third octave bands). The DA-20 stores the waveform for post-processing using any software that can handle standard multi-channel wav files such as Prosig DATs Lite or DA-20PA1. The DA-20 also has triggering functions and selectable sampling rates for intelligent data reduction and optimisation of sample rate vs. memory capacity.

For vibration, the Rion DA-20 is typically used with 3 x PV-57 high sensitivity full frequency range accelerometers and Rion VP-80 3 channel charge amplifier providing a noise floor of around 0.0002 ms-2, at the maximum sensitivity setting, and a frequency range of up to 3000 Hz. However, with the DA-20 supports standard CCLD accelerometers directly with a selectable 2 mA 18V power supply on each channel or you can use up to 3 charge accelerometers with the optional Rion VP-80 3 channel charge amplifier. CCLD microphones and preamplifers are also supported.

  • Records up to 4 channel 16 bit wav files
  • Data recorded onto compact flash for easy and quick data transfer
  • Frequency range d.c. - 20 kHz
  • 80 dB dynamic range
  • Input voltage ranges (peak) 0.01V, 0.0316V, 0.1V, 0.316V, 3.16V and 10V
  • Frequency ranges 100, 500, 1000, 5000, 10 000 and 20 000 Hz (sample rate selectable 2.4x or 2.56x)
  • 10 Hz High Pass and 100, 500 and 1 kHz Low Pass Filters (all filters can be switched off)
  • Supports direct connection of suitable microphone pre-amplifiers and accelerometers
  • 2 mA 18V power supply for CCLD devices (e.g. line drive accelerometers or microphone pre-amplifiers such as the Rion PV-41 Accelerometers or NH-22 Pre-Amp)
  • Charge accelerometers supported if used with Rion VP-80 3 Channel Charge Amplifier (Option)
  • Really simple to operate with physical tape-recorder type buttons for record and play functions and a logical and intuitive menu structure for setting the instrument up
  • Clear backlit LCD display which shows real time input levels as bar graph display
  • Supplied with free Viewer software for reviewing signals
  • Up to 2GB Compact Flash Cards supported
  • Available recording time depended upon user-selected frequency range and number of channels but for example (with a 2GB card) 1 channel up to 20 kHz – 5 hours 20 minutes, 3 channels up to 500 Hz 71 hours and 6 minutes
  • Recording can be continuous or internally or externally triggered by level (0, 1 and 5 second pre-trigger periods available)
